Training and technical support for developing communal apiaries
The program transfers technical capacities to maintain communal apiaries that benefit 60 producers in the TCO Alto Parapetí. Likewise, the bases for linking these producers with beekeeping groups and local and national markets, with the perspective of forming inclusive sustainable businesses, are being established.
Since 2018, actions to install beehives and develop technical abilities were implemented in coordination with executors and local allies. In 2020, 39 producers received from the Ministry of Education their basic level certificate on permanent productive communal beehive education, with a remarkable participation of women, who made up approximately 50%.
The implementation of communal apiaries included the acquisition of materials and equipment for the honey production and technical guidance during the 12 months of each project stage, until a consolidated production was achieved.
Towards the end of 2022 and part of 2023, a new local partner took the lead: the PROINPA Foundation. It complemented the actions initiated in 2018, focusing its intervention on developing transformation skills based on honey and propolis derivatives. These included propolis talcum powders, beeswax-based lip balms, honey-based energizers, shampoos, and small soaps. This approach allows each producer to independently decide whether to market honey and/or its derivatives.
The participation in these transformation processes was 71% female and 29% male. As a result of this initiative, two family enterprises were established, creating employment opportunities within the community. The honey production during the period 2022-2023 amounted to 1,132 kilograms, and in 2023-2024, it increased to 1,767 kilograms. A significant portion of this production was successfully commercialized through partnerships with healthy food entrepreneurs and other ventures.
